Micrex carries out major staking in B.C. and Alberta
Micrex Development Corp. announced today that it has completed major staking initiatives at its Bighorn Gold Project in northern British Columbia and at its Burmis Magnetite/Titanium Project is south-western Alberta.
At Bighorn a total of 50 claim units were staked in a helicopter assisted program. The aim was to secure areas of interest that were developed from the most recent exploration program carried out this fall.
Every recent exploration effort has led to gold discoveries in and around the original Micrex claim block. The location of further veins and alteration zones as reported in the December 1, 2004 press release with two new veins assaying 4.2 g/t and 5.93 g/t respectively has prompted Micrex to take the initiative to secure the entire area of interest.
With the new claims this brings the Micrex holdings at Bighorn to over 10 sq. miles.
Following up on the assay work that has already been reported, samples from this most recent program have been submitted for multi element analysis and thin section work to help define the nature of the gold deposit and the associated alteration zones.
At Burmis staking was based on a re-interpretation of earlier work that indicated that there was a potential for expansion of the resource in an area between known magnetite occurrences already controlled by Micrex.
Strong market demand and encouraging results from the extensive drilling program carried out by Micrex earlier in the year prompted the company to secure the area.
Micrex also announced the completion of an important environmental study that will form part of the mine permit application for the Burmis Magnetite/Titanium Deposit.
The study incorporates the changes that Micrex has made to the mining plan that prompted the withdrawal of the initial mining application earlier in 2004.
Because the anticipated mine is relatively small scale, covering an area about the size of a small gravel pit, there will be minimal environmental impact but studies of this type are a valuable part of a mining application.
Micrex believes that this work will address the concerns that have been raised by several local residents and it will allow Micrex to demonstrate its continued commitment to conducting its operations in a responsible manner.
